Oil pastels and paint marker on 80×120 canvas.
Much of my work is inspired by religion and its imagery. This painting is my version of how Adam and Eve are classicly portrayed. With it, I want to raise questions about whether paradise was truly a gift, and not a set-up for failure.
Why was the tree of knowledge in the Garden of Eden at all? Why did the omnipotent God allow his children to fail? Why were they punished? Was the failure not as much God’s as theirs?
I also wanted to challenge the idea that Eve was at fault, and with it the entire story of the ‘femme fatale’. If the fault was with Adam and Eve at all, the blame would (or should) have been equally shared.
